Now I know some of you are thinking, "Ewww, NO, not green smoothies, please! They look so disgusting!!"
Recipe after the break!
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup of blueberries
1 cup of green vegetable (whatever I have on hand - spinach, kale, lettuce, swiss chard, a mix. Changing it up is good.)
1 tbl of nut butter (my favorite is almond butter, it's a little sweet.)
a handful of raw nuts (pre-soaked is best because it gets rid of the enzyme inhibitor that the nut has that can cause your stomach to ache but I often just throw 'em in from the package.)
scoop of protein powder (I use organic hemp. I'll link my brands tomorrow)
1/2 cup to 1 cup of almond mylk (again, use what you like, hemp is great too!)
That's it! If you like them thick make sure your bananas are frozen and use a small amount of mylk. I change the thickness depending on my mood. A lot of times I like it extremely thick...it's like having ice cream for breakfast =D
If you haven't tried Green Smoothies head to your local coop or health food restaurant and order one. Try the green one! You'll be pleasantly surprised.
My vitamin goes in there cause having it broken up helps absorption (my cousin the doctor clued me in on that one.)
If you're not using frozen fruit then I suggest throwing in some ice cubes. I personally don't like warm smoothies in the morning.
What are some of your favorite smoothies?
