I’m not really sure why water gets such a bad rap. When you’re thirsty, there’s nothing better to give your body exactly what it’s looking for.
Staying hydrated is beneficial on so many levels and yet, most of us live in a state of perpetual dehydration!
If you feel tired, achy and are susceptible to headaches, the chances are high that you’re dehydrated.
I’m sure you’ve already heard that we should be drinking about 8 glasses of water a day. That number varies depending on size, environment, and exercise, among other things. However, the Mayo Clinic says that 8 is an good working number so...
(Ha! I know...that is SO easier said than done!) We'll get to that after the break. For right now, let's look at some of the reasons you want to drink a lot of water every day.

I know that some of you also find the taste of water boring. Hang with me for a sec. I’ll give you a couple of ways to handle that =)
In 3 SUPER SIMPLE STEPS
PREP - GET A WATER BOTTLE
Buy a BPA-free water bottle (about 20 oz) that will keep your elixir cool all day long. I made sure to get one that looks pretty (so that I enjoy taking it with me everywhere, everyday.) Think of it like getting a favorite pen or journal. It's even easier to use when you enjoy how it looks and feels.
STEP 1 - DRINK 2 GLASSES FIRST THING IN THE MORNING
This is usually one of the best times to drink water since your body is a bit dehydrated from going without all night long.
I know that 2 glasses may sound like a lot, so work up to it if you need to. Start with 1 glass, then add the 2nd one when you can.
Some mornings I just down the 2 glasses, no problem. Other days I drink the first glass and then work through the next one in the next ½ hour. Whatever works for you!
STEP 2 - DRINK A GLASS BEFORE LUNCH & BEFORE DINNER
You’ve heard this one before but have you actually done it? Try it. Especially if you want to eat a less during meals.
STEP 3: SIP YOUR WAY THROUGH 1 OR 2 WATER BOTTLES A DAY
I always take my water bottle with me. As I go through my day I just keep reaching for it. I can go through one and a half without even trying =)
AN ADDITIONAL 20 oz WITHOUT TRYING
If you're eating fruits and vegetables that will account for 20% of your water intake for the day.
Viola! If you follow this strategy you'll be well hydrated on a daily basis. An easy way to check your hydration level is to note the color of your urine. It should be a very light yellow or clear.
WHAT IF YOU DON'T LIKE WATER?
Give yourself some help by adding a flavor to it that you do like. I’ll add lemon, raspberries, strawberries, or mint when I get bored.
Within a week, you’ll be guzzling down water even without added flavors because your body loves water (you ARE water! Well, over 60% of you is.)
Even if you aren’t able to drink 8 glasses a day, adding any amount of water to your daily diet will improve your bodies ability to flush toxins and will help you to feel better.
For a real treat or if you’re feeling very dehydrated, drink Coconut Water. Just make sure there’s no added sugar. Your body will thank you for it and so will your taste buds!
