The group of four women I was sitting with were discussing Christmas and how, "oh, no," it was here already! None of us were prepared for it at all and while we love the holiday we were experiencing a lot stress centered around coping with it all.
Bam! It hit me. That's where the tension I'd been carrying around was coming from. Christmas! I mentioned my revelation to the group and another woman chimed in that she was experiencing the same tension in the exact same spot.
So many of the pitfalls of eating without sugar are littered all over my life during the Holidays. Foods and drink that I've grown up with are deeply connected to my enjoyment of the season. (For me, it's all about the egg nog and if its got enough rum and brandy in it. =p)
How do I say no to the meal that my Mom will make, loaded with childhood favorites like turkey stuffings, candied yams (with the marshmallows on top) and homemade cranberry sauce?
I'm going to have at least one serving of it all. Knowing me, I'll have more than one glass of nog and I will enjoy every last morsel.
There will be no recriminations and no beating myself up. Just a lot of fun and good family times. Tis the season to be fucking JOLLY!
Here's my Battle Plan for getting through the Holidays without the inevitable bloat:
~ Enjoy all culinary treats with as much moderation as I can muster.
~ Drink water before meals
~ Eat before going to any Holiday Events
~ Start the day with a Green Smoothie
My secret weapon is that no matter how all that goes, I plan on resetting as soon as the festivities die down. Yup, I'm gonna Reset. Right after the New Year and you are more than welcome to join me.
I'm going to take 10 days to drastically reduce the sugar in my diet so my body can get back to normal. There'll be a group on Facebook but I'm also going to offer something special for anyone who wants to join in but needs more help.
Details will follow soon.
In the meantime, I hope you do what I do and enjoy the Holidays!
